Coming from Switzerland, I moved to the Netherlands in 2018 to work and study. At Deloitte Innovation in the Artificial Intelligence Center of Expertise (AICE) my ultimate goal is to build relationships between Deloitte employees working on projects related to Artificial Intelligence through community initiatives such as the AICE Hackathon. Having a knack for Communications, this allows me to evolve and grow daily with my tasks. When I’m not working or studying, I fancy a good cocktail, the gym and travelling.

Little AIME

I work at Deloitte Innovation's Artificial Intelligence Center of Expertise (AICE). Here we have Little AIME, which is our very own home-grown AI robot. So far, she has been able to play some simple games such as the imitation of facial expressions, object recognition, et cetera. Since Little AIME is a project that has been brought to life by Marjolein Vlaming, whom I work with, I got involved in organizing all the communications material for the AICE Hackathon.

Little AIME’s skills are limited and the goal of the hackathon was to develop new, fun features for her that are interactive and personal. Students and Deloitters could join in and compete against or with each other. We had quite a big variety of people joining from all sorts of disciplines and expertises within and outside of Deloitte.

Learning effect

What I like about Deloitte? In the first few weeks, I noted the very high level of efficiency, competency and professionalism that everyone had. My learning curve has been steep and having a lot of questions in the first few days, people answered quickly and took their time to sit down with me and explain answers in detail. This has made a lot of things so much easier. Not only you get fast answers for your questions, but you also quickly learn how to answer your questions and find solutions yourself.

The AICE Hackathon is the perfect example for how challenging working at Deloitte is. With events like these you will always have surprises (positive and negative ones) where you have to react quickly and make sure that the ‘flow goes on’. For me, this had an especially big learning effect, since I haven’t organized an event of this size ever. And I have learned a lot of things such as how to deal with uncertainty or inconsistencies when preparing an event.

"At Deloitte there is plenty of room for growth and open collaboration between everyone. You quickly feel as a part of the team."
Team

Since AICE is kind of a cross-functional community where everyone can join, I do get a lot of opportunities to work with people from all over Deloitte. Also, people will actually reach out to you if they notice what you have been doing and will ask about your experiences. So for example, the Swedish firm also wants to organize a hackathon and they have reached out to us to ask questions in advance, how we prepared and what we planned. You get a lot of that interaction at Deloitte, which I specifically like, since people are actually working ‘together’. You reach out for questions, input, feedback and you will get an answer. At Deloitte there is plenty of room for growth and open collaboration between everyone. You quickly feel as a part of the team."
