Lynn Blokstra,
Senior Consultant M&A.

Lynn Blokstra studied Economics and Business at the UvA (University of Amsterdam). A Deloitte M&A Inhousedag roused her interest. A subsequent visit to a more informal event was the acknowledgement that she “clicked” with Deloitte. Lynn started as a Business Analyst within M&A Transaction Services. Currently, she’s a Senior Consultant who is not only learning on the job but also doing a post-master.

‘I work in a challenging and diverse workplace. New client assignments keep coming in, which is exactly what I’m looking for in a job. Both the horizontal and the vertical communication at Deloitte are great. Whether you’re talking to a peer or a partner, there is always room to spar. I’m part of a young, ambitious and motivated group of people who inspire each other in many ways.

We are involved in confidential merger and acquisition processes. Our clients come from various industries. For instance, I have done assignments in Retail, Wholesale, Consumer Products, and TMT (Technology, Media and Telecom). At the moment, we are developing a new and innovative payment service for a client in the banking industry. It’s a project that will make an impact on society as a whole, where Financial Services Industry (FSI) meets TMT.

It’s wonderful to be able to work on such a project. FSI has moved away from “men in suits” to being an innovative, rapidly changing sector that has embraced technology.’

‘You’re never on your own. If there’s a deadline, the entire team takes on the challenge. The team consists of Deloitte co-workers from various service lines, each with their own expertise. Quite often, external advisers are involved as well. Collaborating with so many parties adds to the challenge. At Deloitte you get many responsibilities right from the start and you’re in direct contact with the client.

Clients are not always familiar with M&A processes, so we can really add value with our expertise. Also, our financial analyses provide extra insight into the company, which is also very much appreciated after the M&A process.’

 

‘Next to working in M&A, I also take on recruitment tasks, the coordination of the M&A traineeship and activities at Deloitte Fit. Deloitte Fit offers you the option to do sports and visit matches that are sponsored by Deloitte. From Damloop and Classico Boretti (cycling) to golf clinics and hockey matches, and from mindfulness trainings to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro (“Reaching peaks”). Exercise helps you create the right “work life balance” and it keeps you healthy and in shape.

Deloitte offers you room for ongoing development. When I indicated that I needed a new challenge and wanted to expand my knowledge of our field of expertise, I got great support and advice. For instance, you can do a secondment abroad, do an exchange with another service line, or a post-master program. I have entered the Executive master program of M&A and Valuation. In the future, this will help me to advise clients even better about all aspects of the M&A process.’
