‘Be yourself, enjoy, and do your best!’

During her bachelor Business Administration in Groningen, Fleur was looking for which direction she wanted to take. In the end she chose Accountancy and mapped out a route that suits her. She wrote her thesis at Deloitte and immediately afterwards went on a world tour. When she returned, she started her career at Deloitte.

'Starting a career while the whole world is in panic? Honestly, it’s quite terrifying. I am grateful not to face this challenge on my own. At Deloitte everyone is very helpful, kind and understanding. The daily update phone calls, the online teambuilding activities and the virtual coffee meetings, I secretly started to love these things. I first interacted with Deloitte while organizing the Accountancy week on behalf of my student association. In this week we visited six large Accountancy companies in three days. I ended up picking Deloitte, based on mostly my gut feeling. I particularly think the connection you feel with the people around you is important. Because eventually you will be working together with those people. Later, I wrote my thesis at Deloitte and I felt at home right away. It was very convenient to write my thesis with a group. We all felt the same: somewhat insecure, some of us struggled finding their way, and at the end most of us stressed out because of the approaching deadline. Together we often complained to eachother, but we mostly sought each other’s company for peptalks and Friday afternoon drinks. Despite everybody being extremely busy at Deloitte, they were always there for us to help all interns where needed. Doing a thesis internship is the perfect way to get to know Deloitte, as well as the people who work there.'

'Something I am very grateful for, is the freedom Deloitte offered me, even before I started working there. I had planned to travel abroad for a year after finishing my master degree. I was nervous about sharing this in my final evaluation. Fortunately, this was not considered a problem, and they even encouraged me to do so. Even this early on, I was given the freedom to choose my own path and I eagerly grasped this opportunity. My friends and family expected me to stay abroad. But I felt like Deloitte would help me develop further, so the choice to return wasn’t too difficult. I’ve been working at Deloitte for a few months, but it feels so familiar that it seems a lot longer. In a short period of time I have got to know a lot of people (digitally of course) and have learned so much. It’s amazing to be a part of multiple teams. Every team member has different qualities, stories and tips. Combining these perspectives is extremely educational and helps me to create my own working style.'

'Next to working in Audit, it is important to me to dedicate part of my time and energy to other aspects of the company. Therefore, I decided to join Deloitte GLOBE, an initiative within Deloitte that connects people who share affinity with the LGBTQ+ community. I want to contribute to a culture where everybody feels the freedom to completely be themselves. Creating an environment where everybody is accepted and feels comfortable at all time. In this way we don’t only bringout the best in ourselves, but also in each other! As I mentioned before, I enjoy meeting new people. So if you have any questions, feel free to contact me for a virtual coffee!'
