Enabling innovation and trusted relationships with consumers

JORIEN MARTINIUS
Manager, Regulatory Risk
‘The Financial Services Industry has been going through several changes in the last decade. The accountability of financial institutions, as well as their role in society, have increased in importance. New laws and regulations have been introduced, for instance in the field of money laundering and terrorist financing, and financial consumer health. Part of the expertise of the Regulatory Risk team is our in-depth knowledge of these laws and regulations. We aim to apply them in such a way that the industry is enabled to innovate and develop a trusted relationship with consumers. This can be challenging.’

In 2017, Jorien Martinius (31) wrote her master thesis at Deloitte. She started her career at the firm when she was still a working student. Currently, she’s about to become a Manager within the Regulatory Risk team, focusing on the Financial Services Industry (FSI) - more specifically, on the Banking Industry. ‘Primarily innovations and (digital) transformation, as well as the Regulatory and Compliance issues involved.’ An amazing journey So far, working at Deloitte has been an amazing journey for Jorien, with plenty of wonderful experiences, opportunities for personal development, and new challenges. ‘We work for international clients, which means that I have been able to travel to several countries. The variety of the assignments means you’re always on the move, learning and challenging yourself. I have also been able to finish two studies, including a post-master programme and an education at Oxford University.’

Never a dull moment ‘As tacky as it sounds: there’s never a dull moment at Deloitte. When I work for a client I try to come up with solutions that works out well for the project as well as for the client. What I like most, are short-term team projects with concrete results, for which you need to keep a fresh perspective on things. Sometimes the team consists of two people, at other times it’s twenty. But no matter how big the team is, I just love the vibe. We are deeply interested in each other’s assignments and always prepared to help each other.’

Impact on society Deloitte offers various opportunities to make an impact on society, such as working for the Deloitte Impact Foundation. ‘Last year I worked with 3 colleagues to set up a financial information centre for young people in the west of Amsterdam. We developed a project plan to reduce the taboo around adolescents in debt. For instance, we launched a social media campaign and created learning materials. It was an amazing experience to help others based on my financial expertise.’
