‘How to make sure that a change will be smooth?’
The Deloitte Change Management team helps clients facing various change issues,
from company culture change to the implementation of new IT systems or an entire
business transformation. In the words of Simone van Trier, Senior Manager Change
Management, and Jochem Klinkhamer, Senior Consultant Change Management: ‘We are
always focused on the human aspects of change. What does change mean for the
workforce? What stages of emotions will they be going through? And how can we
make sure that a change will be smooth?’

‘We offer services from strategy to implementation, and are able to engage the
workforce’,
Simone (41) explains. ‘With every assignment, it’s amazing and challenging to
fully
understand what a client is going through. What are the issues? And how can we
use our
network to help?’ Currently, Simone is a Change Coach for a client in Consumer
Business
that is involved in a customer service implementation. ‘It’s my job to provide
honest
feedback to the client', she smiles. ‘I can use all the change management
experience that I
have gained so far, so I’m able to challenge the client. I keep an overview of
the project and
offer help wherever I can. It’s a nice change from my usual roles – to being an
implementation expert, leading the operational change management team. I can
help the
client to realise change themselves.’

Creating an inclusive environment
Jochem (28) is currently involved in the cultural integration between two
companies. ‘How can you make sure that the vibe in merging companies is similar?
How to create an inclusive environment where there’s a place for everyone within
the organisation? That’s a challenge. We organise leadership sessions and have
set up an ambassador network. It energises me to make people feel valuable in
their jobs’, he says excitedly. ‘For instance, I recently set up a workshop
about psychological safety. It helps participants to experience what it’s like
to open up to their colleagues and show a real interest in them. I came up with
the idea myself and was happy with all the support I got from Deloitte. That is
because entrepreneurship is valued highly, and also because you can always find
colleagues who are like you, who are sparring partners with plenty of expertise
in a particular field, and who’d love to help you along the way.’

Sharing expertise and experience
That’s exactly why Jochem joined Deloitte. ‘I wanted to work for a large
organisation where I
could learn from my colleagues and share expertise and experience’, he says. ‘I
have a
background in technology. However, when I was doing a coaching trajectory at the
tech
company I was working for, I found out that I prefer talking to people about
what drives
them, what’s on their mind, and how teams collaborate. I spoke to several people
about this
and came to the conclusion that I should be working at a Change Team. I felt a
strong
connection with the Deloitte team and made the switch.’ Six years ago, Simone
also joined
Deloitte because she wanted to take the next step in her career development. ‘I
was working
at a small consultancy firm and was considering a switch to a firm that offered
more
projects in the field of Human Capital and Change. I have loved change
management ever
since I studied Organisational Studies in Tilburg, taking classes in group
dynamics, and
relations and networks within organisations. Deloitte offers you the opportunity
to gain
valuable cross-border expertise and experience. We work with colleagues from
other
member firms and execute projects for clients abroad.'

Pro bono hackathon
‘We gain experience from commercial assignments as well as pro bono projects’,
Jochem
says. ‘The Deloitte Impact Foundation allows us to contribute to society on a
regular basis.
For instance, we organised a pro bono hackathon in which various teams were
trying to
solve a change issue. The client got to choose the winner with the best
solution. It’s amazing
if you can contribute to society in such a way, and it really adds value to your
job.’ ‘Also, it’s a
great way to expand your experience, next to our collective learnings, and
teambuilding
events with key note speakers from in and outside Deloitte’, Simone adds.

Caring and accessible
‘I’m proud of the way Deloitte was able to connect with all employees during the
pandemic’, Simone says. ‘Working from home was challenging for most of us. I
have two kids, so I was glad that Deloitte offered all kinds of help, such as
extra child care facilities. Many people don’t expect a large corporate to be so
caring and accessible. It’s amazing.’ ‘I know’, Jochem continues. ‘I was
surprised by the team vibe. Everyone is so nice and thoughtful. It’s easy to
share feedback and to launch new ideas. The team is young – or at least it’s
young at heart’. Simone nods. ‘We’re a group of people who share the same
values, while there’s room for diversity in cultural background, education, and
life experience. We love working together.’
