The first 100 days in the Programme Leadership team

Lotte Gerritsen has been working at Deloitte for almost 100 days now, as a Consultant at Programme Leadership. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic she has only been to the office a few times. Still, she passionately shares her experiences so far. ‘For me, Deloitte is a candy store, anything is possible. From doing pro bono societal projects to exciting assignments abroad. At Deloitte, my ambition can take me anywhere.’

After an internship at the UN in New York City, studying in Canada, summer school in Washington DC, and a young professionals training at a Dutch consultancy firm, Lotte Gerritsen switched to Deloitte earlier this year. ‘I’m a bit of an idealist and did not envision myself working at a Big Four office on the “Zuidas” in Amsterdam. Still, I was a little curious about the corporate world and the young and passionate people working there’, Lotte smiles. ‘After listening to exciting stories about Deloitte from various people, I decided to get to know the organisation. As it turned out, there was a strong connection.’

Lotte feels lucky that she was allowed to start working on a project from day one. ‘Actually, I was able to choose from a number of options’, she says. ‘The Programme Leadership team is part of Organization Transformation, which in turn is part of Human Capital within Deloitte Consulting. In a nutshell: we offer organisations support and advise at big, complex transformations, by means of project and programme management. We work with clients to set up and lead projects and programmes. In this way, we help them to fulfill the goals of the organisation. We have various roles, such as project manager and project management officer (PMO), and help with the analysis, we prioritise, structure, and facilitate decision-making, in order to help clients reach their goals. For me, this is well-known territory. It’s an addition to what I’ve been doing in previous years. My industry is the Public Sector, and I’m frequently occupied with current, societal issues within the public domain. It’s very interesting. Within Programme Leadership we focus on the following industries: Consumer Deloitte Private Energy, Resources & Industrials Financial Services Industry Government & Public Services Technology, Media & Telecommunications. So it’s a very diverse group of clients!’

‘What I like most about my new job, is the variety. Every project involves a new world with a new challenge and new people. I also like the societal impact of this line of work. And of course the colleagues, who make up a large part of the fun at work. Although I’ve never been to the office, I’ve gotten to know my colleagues in a fun digital way. And not just the people from Programme Leadership. Within Programme Leadership we work with other service lines and experts from Deloitte as well. And next to our external projects for clients, we deliver internal projects about any possible theme. From Inclusion & Diversity to Sustainability, and the further development of core competences within Programme Leadership, such as programme management. Anyone can choose a theme that fits them best, and become a specialist in that field.’

Looking back, the first 100 days have flown by, according to Lotte. ‘It is often said that at Deloitte, people are the most important asset. Therefore, a lot of attention is being paid to your well-being, especially now. We frequently receive lovely gifts at home, such as a hanging plant with a card saying “Hang in there”, or a party box for Friday afternoon. Recently, the entire Human Capital team joined an online live cooking event, which of course ended in total chaos. Also, we were taught how to paint Bob Ross-style. In short, we are taken care of very well, which makes working during the pandemic a lot more fun.’
