‘Together, we are making the judicial system paperless'
Piles of paper files can be found all around the
Dutch Courts. Jeroen Ulrich, Manager Cloud
Engineering, and Malissa Bal, Manager Digital
Customer, are committed to changing that. 'We are
helping various development teams within the
judicial system by digitizing all the mail exchanges
and ways of working in the court's logistics chain. An
extensive and challenging project, with great value
for Dutch society.'

The two main themes of the digital journey of the Judiciary are digital access
and digital
ways of working. Jeroen (41) is Product Owner Digital Accessability: 'We are
building a digital
portal where citizens, lawyers, and legal entities can log in to interact. We
are also creating a
digital mailroom, and a digital case file manager. This platform enables digital
communication with all stakeholders in the judicial system. We make it easier
for external
parties to access the Court, but we also help internal employees with getting
the right
information together. From case registration and data of those involved to all
necessary
documents for the hearings.'

Connecting the dots
'For administrative law and civil law, a first version of the solution was
already set up and that was so well received, that we may now connect criminal
law to it,' says Malissa (31), Product Owner Criminal law. Within the criminal
law domain, digital ways of working are already in place. 'Changing the way of
working is a process that takes time, especially in a complex environment where
professionals are accustomed to work independently. On top of that, the
information for a court case is administered in all kinds of different systems.
Now it is up to our teams to collaborate and combine everything into a solution
so that when the judge or legal assistant open their working environment, they
instantly get an overview. Fortunately, the Judiciary has a few years to
complete it. The best thing is that we really are making a difference. It takes
time, but in the end we add value that benefits society as well as the
indivduals who will use it.'

In-depth discussions
Jeroen takes great pleasure in the project as well. 'I always enjoy the
challenge of turning
complex matters into a working system that is broadly supported. I enjoy the
in-depth
discussions with both the developers and the customer,' he says. 'I have been
working at
Deloitte for more than ten years now, but I have never done the same project
twice. And it's
wonderful that we frequently collaborate across departments. Together, we
combine the
skills required for the client's needs.' Jeroen started at Deloitte as a
Software Developer,
although he is currently more involved in project supervision than project
development. 'My
Cloud Engineering team focuses on process automation and builds digital business
processes. We develop solutions that enable businesses to do their work
effectively and
efficiently. Our customers want to be able to quickly react to changing
circumstances, and
cloud technology offers excellent opportunities to do this. Our team is driven,
motivated,
and always genuinely interested in one another.'

Putting the team in teamwork
Malissa nods: 'What makes working at Deloitte distinctive is that we really work
as a team in
co-creation with the client. Together, we put our best foot forward to make a
difference. I
switched to Deloitte a year ago, and I'm extremely glad I did. I had been in the
consulting
industry for ten years, but during the pandemic, I realized how important a
strong company
culture is. Work is such a big part of your life, that it is crucial to have an
employer who is a
good fit for you. At Deloitte, people truly listen to you and think along with
you. That’s
precisely what I expect from an employer. There is enough room for
self-development and
for choosing your own career path. And when you have a good idea, you can always
discuss
with a partner. Everyone is eager and willing to help you.'
