Working at The Edge

With 20.000 sensors, 'The Edge', Deloitte's office on the Zuidas in Amsterdam,
is justifiably
called a 'computer with a roof.' But how is it to work in such an office?

Those sensors not only do the obvious things, such as making sure the light
turns on when an employee enters a new area. As an employee you can also use an
app to set the light intensity and temperature at your workplace, the cleaners
know which areas have been used intensively and therefore need a good cleaning
and which workplaces have been left empty for a day.
Also useful: in the app Mappiq, you can see where your colleagues are located in
the building and whether there is a workspace available close to them. When
leaving home, the app shows how long the travel time to the office is and
whether there is a parking space available. At the end of the working day, the
same story. Even better: the app suggests you first go to the gym in the
building for half an hour, because after that half an hour the traffic jams will
be over, and the drive back will only take half an hour instead of an hour.
The BBC visited the office and asked colleague Alexandre Janssen how he
customizes his
workplace via his smartphone. Watch the BBC's report here.
